The State Duma deputy viewed favourable the proposal to recreate opium poppy plantations in Russia for the needs of the pharmaceutical industry, but he emphasized that control is necessary.
“If we can provide the cultivation of these plants, and then control the production of anaesthetics from them, then this will be useful. Such drugs are produced in many countries of the world. This group of drugs is capacious enough for our market; alas, it is not enough for us. And, in theory, we need to produce these drugs ourselves, and not just supply them from abroad,” said Alexander Petrov, the head of the State Duma subcommittee on medicines and the development of the pharmaceutical industry in an interview with Sputnik Tajikistan.
At the same time, he emphasized that this can only be done under state control. And even better - in state-owned, not in private enterprises.
